Look for God. Look for God like a man
with his head on fire looks for water.
~ Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat Pray Love

I woke up with Elizabeth Gilbert whispering this in my ear. I have a habit of listening to Audible books when I sleep and this time I was listening to Eat Pray Love. Amazing book and worth the read despite the movie. It is filled with insights.

If you aren’t particularly a religious person, then substitute the word “God” with “Love” – they are one in the same. But I am not talking about romantic love – although that is delicious to think about. I am talking about Love for your fellow man (or woman), your life’s work, your family, this amazing world we live in.

I am talking about the Love that is so overwhelming that it turns into compassion – for yourself and all those around you. The kind of love that bursts forth from you and spills out. The kind of love that is expressed in pure joy.

Look for Love. Look for Love like a man
with his head on fire looks for water.

That is what I am talking about. That is what we should always be looking for.

And, oh, it’s not out there – it’s never out there. It’s always inside.

Blessings.

I have some beautiful David Austin roses in my garden (yes, I know the photo is of a lotus – I was playing with some photoshop actions and haven’t downloaded the photo of the roses. Yet. ) They are lovely, large old-fashioned cabbage roses. They didn’t bloom for three years and I thought I might have to give up on them. But, finally, with a little patience and a long wait, they bloomed!

It reminds me of creative endeavors. You can work at something for a long time without seeing a lot of results – like my roses.

The trick is to remember that sometimes ideas or events have to put down roots for a while – they have to be nurtured. And just because you don’t see results immediately doesn’t mean there’s no growth.

Remember: Never quit five minutes before the miracle. There’s always a miracle.

Sound familiar?

Make it a practice to say a simple prayer of thanks as your feet hit the floor in the morning. Make it a practice to be grateful every single day because, with gratitude, the universe is eternally abundant.
